Hey,
Thanks for the update. I don't think that the blog fully addressed what folks seem to be upset about, though. Seems to be that a mob mentality has flared up over a perceived betrayal. It won't matter what issue you choose to talk about if you don't correct the perception of betrayal. It doesn't really matter whether or not there was any intent to actually follow through on some of the different ideas presented by the different folks in the internal newsletter, the perception of serious consideration of ideas which many folks think of as dangerous to the continuation of their virtual lives as they know them is present. It's only a game, but paradoxically it is also more than a game.
I would think that you might want to extinguish the source of the fire that's burning your house, so to speak. Yeah, I have no idea how you should go about doing that, sorry. Blunt honesty about specific items from the newsletter, perhaps? It wasn't supposed to be a public item, yet here it is. You may as well open up the brainstorming on each idea with the whole EvE community. Establish some threads to talk reasonably about each point. That way everybody feels as if they've been heard. Of course, those who want to rage will rage anyway, but that's probably just the way they are. I don't know if that idea would do any good for you, but it might.
As far as the brainstorming by CCP employees in the newsletter is concerned, personally I'm not bothered by it at all. Companies have to brainstorm about various things in order to progress. EvE has existed for quite awhile, and I've got no doubts that it will continue to exist for a long time to come. There is no other game like it.
Funny thing about all the comparisons to Star Wars Galaxies: New Game Enhancements: If you look around, you'll find a lot of posts by folks who quit out of sheer disillusionment who went back to it after a couple years and found the changes were actually pleasant, but by then the damage to SWG's reputation was done. When you're too close to something, you sometimes can't appreciate the value of change. But that doesn't eliminate the serious danger of the perception of betrayal to any company.
Anywho, Incarna looks like it has a promising future. I'm not really sure whether or not I'll purchase anything through the NeX, but judging by my history in mmo's I certainly might, lol. Probably not at those prices, though.
My only concern/request is over the loss of the hangar view. I'd honestly like to have the hangar as the default view with a "Disembark Ship" button right above the "Undock" button (or wherever you want to put it). To me, MMO's are all about freedom. The kind of freedom that you don't get in other games. Personally, I'd like the freedom to stay on the ship or disembark from the ship as I please.
Thanks for hearing me out, Dobbs
